The AmericanChemical Society has published an article calling for governments to regulate and ban non-essential use of PFA (poly fluorinated alkyl) compounds due to their "extreme persistence and potential for harm". In "The Scientific Basis for Managing PFAs as a Class", researchers point to the the toxicity and extreme longevity of these "forever chemicals" as a threat to human health for the next 100 years. Extreme persistence and bioaccumulation is why PCBs were regulated in the 1970s; manufacturers who used PCBs spent billions of dollars cleaning those forever chemicals out of their factories and replacing equipment that had been filled with them.
